La Grande Oreille (« The Big Ear »)
, the quarterly review of the arts of speech, was founded in 1999 with a view to providing food for thought for storytellers, teachers, therapists, librarians, researchers as well as the general public.

It aims at:
– enabling readers to (re)discover tales, myths and legends, in a word, all types of narratives which are the basis of our culture;
– restoring tales and oral speech to the place they deserve, by relying on a rigorous approach (yet easy to read and understand);
– opening up to Europe and French-speaking countries in order to encourage cross-cultural exchanges.

In every issue you will find:
– a main theme, illustrated with various narratives, short stories and legends, and developed in a special report through a multidisciplinary approach (e.g. historical, anthropological, ethnological, sociological, philosophical, literary, scientific points of view);
– an almanac with nursery rhymes, songs, proverbs, recipes, riddles…;
– a magazine presenting the latest news about tales in France and throughout the world, through interviews with storytellers, reports on festivals, and providing insights into oral expression and related practices;
– a detachable supplement listing the dates, places and times of various festivals, shows or other events, in every region.
